Redwood Kardon

Redwood is a retired electrician, certified combination building inspector, electrical inspector, technical advisor, author and instructor with over 30 years of experience in construction. He was a building inspector for the City of Oakland for 12 years, an installation manager for Harmony Foods for five and has worked in all aspects of the electrical trade from bathroom remodels to chemical plants. For the past 10 years he has conducted highly acclaimed training seminars all across the country for building inspectors, electricians, contractors, architects and engineers. Redwood is the original creator of the widely popular Code Check series of manuals and has been technical advisor for numerous publications.

Douglas Hansen
Seminar Services


Douglas is the principal author of the Code Check series of field guides to building codes and the author of a popular book for home inspectors, Electrical Inspection of Existing Dwellings. He began working with Code Check in 1998, when founder Woody Kardon asked him to edit the first edition of Code Check Electrical. Douglas subsequently moved into the principal authorship role for the series.

Douglas sits on the technical committee for Electrical Systems Maintenance of the National Fire Protection Association, where he represents the American Society of Home Inspectors. The committee is responsible for NFPA 73 – The Standard for Electrical Inspection of Existing Dwellings. He operated a successful home inspection business in California from 1980 to 1995. For several years, he taught residential and commercial electrical codes at the College of San Mateo. He provides seminars around the country to inspectors, building departments, and electricians on building and electrical codes, construction defects, and inspection techniques. In 2006 Mr. Hansen was honored with the Philip C. Monahon Award from the American Society of Home Inspectors. He has authored dozens of magazine articles and over 20 books. He has served as an expert witness in over 150 cases involving contractor and inspector standard of care, building codes, construction defects, and disclosure issues, and has testified in Superior Courts in several counties. He is a member of the Western Construction Consultants Association, the Forensic Expert Witness Association, NFPA, IAEI, ASHI, CREIA, & IAPMO. He is a licensed general contractor and holds numerous inspection certifications. In 2010 he joined the board of directors of the Building Standards Institute.

Paddy Morrissey


Paddy has been the illustrator for every Code Check book. He designed this website, illustrated all of the images and created all of the animated GIFs. His visual style reflects his special knack for making extremely dry material both understandable and whimsical. It helps that he is a successful comedian, actor, writer, graphic designer and all-around jack-of-all-trades. He is available for graphic desgn and illustration services.
